How we research, write and update our guides

Our guides exist to help merchants get approved and stay processing. This page explains where the information comes from, how pages are reviewed, and what we do when something changes or is wrong.

How we choose topics

We write about the questions merchants and providers bring to us: why applications are rejected, what happens after an account is closed, how reserves and the MATCH list work, and which payment methods matter in each market.

Sources we use

  • Published rules and help pages from card networks and payment providers
  • Public registers and publications from regulators
  • Provider underwriting requirements shared with us during onboarding
  • Anonymised patterns from merchant applications we have prepared

Where a figure varies by provider, such as a reserve percentage or hold period, we give a typical range and say so.

Writing and review

  1. A draft is written by the Approvd editorial team. We use writing tools, including AI, for drafting and editing.
  2. A member of the team checks every fact, figure and link against the sources before publishing.
  3. Each page shows the date it was last updated.

Independence

Providers cannot pay to be mentioned, ranked or recommended in a guide. Where a guide names a provider we share owners with, we disclose it. See our ownership disclosure.

Updates and corrections

We review guides when rules or provider policies change, and at least once a year. If you spot an error, tell us. We correct factual errors promptly and update the date on the page.
